Scott Michaels
Vice President, Client Services, Atimi Software, Inc.
Scott Michaels, Vice President, Client Services at Atimi Software, Inc., one of the largest independent Macintosh development houses, focuses his technology insight on the quickly changing Apple market. Scott has worked with over a hundred companies to bring their products to the Macintosh platform, most recently concentrating on the iPhone, BlackBerry and Andriod. He is a vital force behind the Atimi team that has developed more than 20 applications and games currently in the App store, including the New York Times Reader and Etch-A-Sketch. Having worked on the front lines of software development and project management for over 9 years, Scott champions the need for a cohesive strategy for companies bringing products to the mobile space. He has worked as part of the W3C in defining standards, and as the lead liaison for bridging innovative technology companies with existing major players, such as NBC, Adobe, and other Fortune 500 companies.
Scott lives and works in Vancouver BC, Canada. When he’s not talking about the Mac, he plays squash, snowboards and lets his Roomba do the cleaning for him.
Carly Shuler
Carly Shuler is a researcher, developer, and author in the children’s media and toy industry. Currently, she is a Fellow focused on industry initiatives and research at The Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, where she recently researched and authored the reports D is for Digital and Pockets of Potential. Throughout her career, Carly has worked with a host of children’s media and entertainment groups, including Sesame Workshop, Spin Master Toys, the Michael Cohen Group, and WGBH. She holds a master’s degree in Technology, Innovation, and Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she studied how media and technology can be used to educate children effectively. Carly is passionate about the magic that happens when fun, research, and education converge, and is dedicated to working on quality children’s products that inspire thought and creativity.

Laura Seargeant Richardson
Principal Designer, frog design, inc.
As a five-year veteran and Principal Designer of frog design and former Director of Design Strategy and Research for M3 Design, Laura specializes in the emotional, social, participatory and sensorial design of products and environments. She has been involved in game design for adolescents, participatory “game” creation with high schoolers, emotionally relevant medical identification with eight-year olds, the role of technology in classrooms and has written on “Design from the Inside/Out” (Interactions Magazine) following a project on next generation play spaces. Laura has played critical roles in developing solutions for Hasbro, HP, Alltel, GE, Yahoo! and Microsoft, among others.
Laura has previously presented at IIT’s 2008 Design Research Conference on “Deconstructing Design,” at the 2007 IDSA World Congress on “The Art and Science of Measuring Products’ Emotional Appeal” and as a SXSW panelist on the role of consumers in the design process. In addition to Interactions Magazine, Laura has also contributed to Gizmodo.com (Tamagotchi to Xbox: Why the World Can’t Resist Phatic Technologies), frog’s Design Mind, as well as Forrester Research reports. She is the proud mom of five-year old, Grayce, who already considers herself a “designer.”
